Operations

Better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life for all. Swindon will be better with you.

Our Operations Directorate covers a wide range of services working on Highways & Transport, Waste, Environmental and Regulatory Services, Streetsmart, Planning, Property Maintenance, Design & Architecture and Heritage and culture.

Our corporate priorities and pledges to achieve our vision focus heavily on the work undertaken by Operations.

We have wide ranging plans for developing the town centre, major upgrades to our road network, developing employment, leisure and retail opportunities in the town and facilitating over 20,000 new homes by 2026. We are facilitating an exciting redevelopment scheme at Kimmerfields in the Town Centre, which will bring additional jobs, homes and retail into a prime site close to the railway station. In addition, we have major town expansions schemes well advanced at Wichelstowe, Tadpole Garden Village and Badbury Park, and in the New Eastern Villages we are bringing forward the largest greenfield urban extension in England.

The Heritage Team are responsible for operating our nationally recognised STEAM museum, as well as the park, house, museum, hotel and conference centre at Lydiard, and the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery. Exciting plans are afoot for each of these facilities as we maximise exposure to the best of our heritage whilst providing high quality facilities for conferencing and events.

Operations includes a number of regulatory functions such as Licensing, Building Control, Animal Health and Planning. Where we can, we are keen to use these functions proactively to bring about improvements to the quality of the environment, public safety, health and wellbeing.

We want Swindon to be the best it can be. If you share our ambition, join us. We’ll be better with you.

Our plans to transform Swindon are already underway. Join us, and our town will be even better by 2030
