It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

As part of our Children’s Commissioning Team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial services that underpin services for children and young people, and Swindon Families.

Your next role

As a Senior Finance Assistant, you’ll help ensure the effective delivery of accurate, timely and high quality financial support across the Children’s Commissioning team. Working as part of the team, you will:

  • Process journals, recharges, and grants to support effective budgetary control.
  • Complete and provide cover for daily and monthly payment runs, ensuring accuracy and issue resolution.
  • Undertake complex reconciliations across various financial systems and identify improvements to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Provide advice and support to budget managers.
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting, including salary monitoring, year-end processing, and the preparation of elements of the Statement of Accounts.
  • Support both internal and external audits by interrogating financial systems and providing appropriate evidence.
  • Respond to financial queries from managers, suppliers, and occasionally external customers, resolving issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems, sharing ideas and learning with the wider team.

About you

You will bring demonstrable experience of working in a finance role within an organisation, supported by:

  • Strong numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in financial IT systems and MS Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to work methodically and prioritise effectively.
  • 5 GCSEs, or equivalent, including Maths and English at grade 4/C or above.

You’ll also share our values; Connected, Resilient, and Brave, showing commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and putting Swindon and its people at the heart of everything you do.

So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change.
