As our Address and Street Management Officer you will manage the process of naming and numbering new streets and properties, including consultation with relevant parties like Developers, Royal Mail, Parish and Ward Councils and Emergency Services. You will develop and promote the Gazetteer Street and Address information to internal and external stakeholders in line with the Councils legal and statutory obligations.

Joining Swindon Borough Council as our Address and Street Management Officer is your chance to make a difference and provide a valuable contribution to the development of the town.

This is an exciting opportunity to create and legally register all naming and numbering of properties and streets within the Borough under the Town Improvement Causes Act 1847 and Public Health and Safety Act 1925, contributing to the development and maintenance of systems and processes related to address and street management.

You ensure that all LLPG data conforms to relevant standards and liaise with internal teams, external agencies and the public regarding address and street management matters. To analyse, interpret and comment on new legislation affecting changes and report the implications to your senior manager.

Part of the role is for you to consult with Councillors, Parish Councils, Developers and others including Emergency Services, and send to Royal Mail to negotiate, agree and implement street naming themes.  You will also undertake research in order to create suitable themes for street naming.

About You

  • You must have knowledge of Geographical Intelligence Systems and an ability for historical research.
  • Knowledge of address and data standards to BS7666, Street Naming and Numbering Acts, aspects of Highway Law
  • Ability to prioritise and execute tasks with a high level of accuracy
  • Computer literacy in word processing, databases, spreadsheets and GIS is required.
  • Good networking abilities and able to communicate with and promote the service at all levels.
  • Work as part of a small team sharing information, workload and providing a joined-up approach to the business

Decision Making

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision; drawing on expertise within the team, professional networks; and across the Council in relation to legislation, technical specifications and stakeholder management as required.
  • Ability to make informed decisions on workload priorities
  • Confidence in making decisions relating to quests from Developers, Councillors, customers and other internal and external quests for Street Naming
  • Ability to act on information and communicate with the appropriate stakeholders

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
