It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic person to join our team as a Neighbourhood Warden, to deliver a customer focused service to help maintain clean and safe neighbourhoods in Council housing areas in Swindon.

With your strong commitment to safe and clean neighbourhoods, you will be be a visible presence on the estates, observing and promptly tackling and removing environmental issues such as fly-tipping, graffiti, litter and overgrown vegetation whilst providing a service to remove unwanted items for Council tenants. You will be involved in a range of manual duties such as, regular cleaning in communal areas of high rise blocks, and in other blocks and areas when required. You will regularly inspect blocks of Council flats to remove fire hazards and obstructions, and advise tenants about refuse presentation and recycling. You will carry out minor repairs e.g. replace light bulbs, missing fence panels, board up windows, report defects, and carry out small environmental projects.

Your next role

You will support the community and Neighbourhood Housing Officers in tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) issues, through observation, reporting and where necessary, intervention. Attend and assist at clearances, where required, remove and/or store belongings from properties and garages, and dispose of using efficient and cost effective methods e.g. inclusion of commercial waste containers. Assist teams across Housing services to remove and/or dispose of any unwanted goods / possessions, where appropriate, up-cycle accordingly.

You will engage with local communities to promote respect for people, property and the environment, and to encourage residents, including young people, to make a positive contribution to improving local neighbourhoods. This will include initiatives in schools and with local community groups.

With your excellent communication skills, including basic IT knowledge, you will have a friendly and cheerful approach along with considerable experience of face-to-face contact with the public. You should also be physically fit with an ability to carry out strenuous manual labour, including very heavy lifting and the use of petrol driven gardening equipment.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role)”.

As you will be required to drive a Council van as part of your duties, a full driving licence is essential. A DBS disclosure will also be required.

Working hours are 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am to 3.30pm on Friday, with the requirement to undertake some weekend work on a rota basis.
