At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

Your next role

This role includes responsibilities for the coordination of projects associated with the Transformation Programme. Managing risks, issues and interdependencies and ensuring that any significant risks and issues are escalated to the Director for Transformation.

You will support the delivery and management of the council’s Transformation Plan which will involve working closely with the Council’s Chief Executive, Leader, and other senior leaders. You will work closely with the independently appointed chair of Children’s Partnership Improvement Board to forward plan agendas, agree and follow up key action points, liaise with report authors, and support the effective functioning of the meeting. This will include supporting the development of high-quality reports to inform these boards.

Maintaining good communications and relations with the programme sponsor is essential and will require you to provide project updates and advice to the sponsor at regular intervals. You will need to build strong relationships with senior leaders across the directorate and beyond to understand and evidence their contribution to the improvement journey, tracking and monitoring progress and impact of our published Ofsted Improvement Plan.

You will be the critical link between and across our temporary and business as usual boards to ensure the golden thread of the improvement priorities are maintained throughout the system (Practice, Performance and Improvement).

You must have a proven track record of delivering and supporting complex programmes, and be able to demonstrate the use of robust project methodologies and tools to support delivery through transformational change and how you positively supported this change.

It’s imperative that you show how you establish and maintain working relationships at all levels of the organisation, whilst demonstrating excellent people skills to drive programme delivery which support in achieving our organisational outcomes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make your mark in a challenging role, allowing you to bring your programme management skills and experience to an organisation that really makes a difference to the lives of the residents of Swindon.

You should have:

  • Experience of project/programme management with children’s social care (education/SEND knowledge advantageous)
  • Project or programme management qualification (or significant experience gained)
  • Experience of working with senior leaders and multi-agency partnership working
  • Experience of working in a political environment

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

Your next package

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
