Your next role
Being a Committee Officer will require you to manage Cabinet, regulatory and Overview and Scrutiny functions. You will also provide committee administration services, staff the education appeals and work closely with colleagues at all levels to ensure the support of Councillors and officers is of the highest standard.
We need someone with experience in a democratic services environment, or a fast learner with transferable skills. Educated to degree level or with equivalent relevant experience, you will be a confident individual with excellent work prioritisation capabilities. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the confidence to support Committees and other meetings by providing advice and producing reports and briefing notes. Knowledge of administering quasi-judicial appeals would be an advantage.
You will be dynamic and flexible in your approach and enjoy working in a demanding environment. You will be politically astute, and able to work effectively as an individual, planning and delivering your own work programme without direction. You will be part of a highly effective and capable team, which supports the local authority’s governance in respect of decision-making processes.You will be willing to work unsociable hours and be available to clerk evening meetings (after 6.00pm for which flexi time is accrued) usually at the Civic Offices and occasionally at external venues in the borough. When not required for meetings, hybrid working is available.
You will need to demonstrate excellent organisation skills, be adept at diary management, and capable of foreseeing and dealing with deadlines. Experience of Modern.gov / Issue Manager and remote meeting technology (such as Microsoft Teams) is desirable.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
