At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

At Swindon we have an aspiration to achieve net zero over the next 10 years. The ownership and operation of 12.5 MW of solar farms, 600 kW of rooftop PV, and installation of LED street lighting provide a great opportunity to build on. Further decarbonisation survey work is being undertaken on properties across the estate.

You will be working in an experienced and friendly team managing, energy procurement, compliance, energy saving and sustainability projects.

Your next role

We are looking for an experienced energy professional used to managing a multi-site portfolio and willing and able to undertake operational tasks. Workload will be varied including, liaising with supplier organisations, contract management, finding & reading meters, procurement, establishing and running smaller contracts, and assisting with energy & sustainability opportunity planning. Your focus will be on the corporate water contract and spend with a view to driving savings through preventative maintenance and leakage management.

You will have excellent contract management skills and a proven ability to listen, explain and influence. You will be an enthusiastic, skilled subject matter expert with good report writing and presentation skills. You will have great organisational skills and be capable of managing your own workload and diary.

Requirement to drive and possession of a full current driving licence, in order to carry out site visits and attend meetings.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

Your next package

Please see our Rewards and Benefits offer for more details.

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.

This role is 37 hours per week but we operate an agile working policy, allowing you to manage your own diary and work flexibly, including off-site/remote working.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
