At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

About the role

We are now recruiting Chefs, to work at our newly refurbished Lydiard House Hotel. This is an exciting time to join us as we expand our events and catering offering, in stunning grounds.

This will include catering for guests of The Lydiard House Hotel, and for external corporate and private clients holding conferences, functions, events and weddings at The Lydiard House Hotel, many of which are high end. You will ensure a high quality offer that meets customer expectations and contributes to the financial performance of the Park.

Significant relevant experience in a senior catering role, experience in hospitality, conference and event catering is preferred.

Alongside our existing chefs you will be part of a team that demands high service standards and one that prides itself on working with freshly sourced local ingredients.

Part of your job role is to be following cleaning rotas daily to highest of standards, daily fridge checks and cleaning and learning all sections of the kitchens from starters, mains and desserts.

You will hold a relevant catering qualification, a full Food Hygiene Certificate and HACCP training, and will have a sound working knowledge of industry standards for food hygiene and health and safety.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon by 2030 together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.

The House, Hotel and Park are a seven day operation and include weekends and unsocial hours. Hours required are 37 hours per week and chefs will need to cover 7 days a week from 6am to 10pm varying shifts.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
