At Swindon Borough Council we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for the better public services. Better processes and a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us and Swindon will be better with you.

At Swindon Borough Council we have a clear vision of what we want the future to look like. We are ranked in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK and are seeking to reflect this level of innovation in the way we approach the future. We believe that by maximising our use of research, evaluation, analysis, consultation and intelligence and using this evidence to define strategically driven initiatives and programmes of work, we can build a fairer Swindon, build a better Swindon, and build a greener Swindon in accordance with our Missions.

Your next role

We recognise that our people are key to us achieving our vision and we now have an exciting opportunity for you to join us. As a member of the Business Improvement team, you will form part of a data and digitally-led community providing digital solutions to all areas of Swindon Borough Council. We solve real business problems, improve customer experience and drive efficiency. It is an exciting time to join a small, high-performing team that has a big impact on the organisation and the community. There is an opportunity to support the council on its journey to develop and embed its new Swindon Plan (external strategy) through a council-wide transformation plan (internal strategy). You will join a supportive and innovative environment where you will be empowered to draw on your own ideas and approaches to directly influence organisational transformation and directly bring benefit to the communities we serve.

You will be a creative, innovative and agile Digital Process Redesigner with skills in form design, digital process design and redesign, implementation and change. You’ll be a fast learner, enthusiastic, ready to contribute fresh ideas to the team, and strive for continuous improvements both for yourself professionally but also for the organisation. Your role will be to facilitate interactions with teams across the business to identify areas for digital improvements to processes to deliver rapid, cost-effective and efficient solutions.

You will actively engage and work closely with business stakeholders at all levels to scope out what improvements are needed, to elicit requirements, to ensure adoption and continuous improvement of solutions. You will work in an agile manner to prioritise the requirements that are necessary and utilise feedback from users to make continuous improvements.

In this role specifically, you will:

  • Identify opportunities across the organisation to digitise an existing process, or to design a new digital process, in order to solve business problems, provide better outcomes for residents, and maximise returned benefit to the organisation
  • Ensure that industry best practice and industry innovation is introduced and that the status quo is sensitively but firmly challenged to ensure that we achieve best value for residents
  • Design digital forms using our corporate form and case management system, as well as identifying opportunities for other systems to be used (where appropriate), ensuring that forms are designed with users in mind
  • Work with business stakeholders to elicit and capture requirements in order to recommend the most effective digital solution
  • Map out the digital processes to ensure that change is embedded and followed by service area.

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
