At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join an established team of Network, Server and Telephony engineers supporting multiple locations in Swindon.  The successful applicant will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience and proven networking configuration support and maintenance skills at a high level. Server virtualisation in a Windows and Azure environment is also advantegous.

You will act as a point of contact for any technical requirements or queries relating to the services delivered from the data centre environments and assist in the design, implementation and configuration of these systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy team working in a fast-paced environment to deliver modernisation and improve operations and services to benefit the residents of Swindon.

You will need a full, clean UK drivers licence and be able to visit our Swindon offices at short notice to attend IT incident work.

Skills required include:

  • Network configuration and support including LAN, WAN, Wi-FI and VPN and associated hardware
  • Firewall support and maintenance
  • VMware
  • Azure
  • Windows Server OS
  • Office 365 administration
  • Windows InTune and Endpoint Manager
  • Active Directory / DNS / Group Policy - Expert Level
  • PowerShell - Knowledgeable
  • SAN Storage
  • Mitel Telephony
  • Authentication, security and monitoring
  • Security best practice awareness (ISO quality standards)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Experience of ITIL, ITSMs and working to SLAs, KPIs and OLAs
  • Technical design and test plan creation
  • Experience in a commercial IT Solutions provider or Managed Services environment

If you have a hands-on, pro-active approach to support and design with strong documentation and presentation skills then this is an opportunity to join a great team.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

Previous applicants need not apply.

So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
