Alex Knott - Neighbourhood Warden

Tell us about yourself Alex Knott

Within my job role I am responsible for keeping housing land clean and safe. Outside of work I spend as much time as possible outdoors, often taking my son out for walks in the countryside or even driving along Salisbury Plain. When I am not outside, I like to unwind and play my bass guitar, my one year old son also enjoys this and tries to help me play.

What attracted you to join SBC?

My previous job roles were working minimum wage so the substantial increase in pay did attract me at first, however the staff benefits, pension and progression within the council is very admirable. I hope to progress within the council in the near future.

What do you most enjoy about working here?

Colleagues are great, and the Lead Warden I work under is very supportive and keen for me to progress. I also enjoy getting to know tenants and I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy taking the van out to the rural villages a couple times a week.

Describe a typical day in your role.

We normally start the day with the cleaning and maintenance of one of our high rise blocks, I currently look after Milverton Court in Park South but have previously worked at Hatherleigh Court. After that we tend to prioritise getting some of our block inspections done throughout the day, in team 4 we are responsible for checking over 170 blocks a month. We also help tenants with the removal of large unwanted items when asked.

What motivates you at work?

The progression within the council motivates me to do my best to achieve and learn more within my job role, as well as that I enjoy working with my current team and there is always a nice atmosphere when beginning the working day. Although to be honest, out of all that, nothing beats seeing my son smile as I walk through my front door after a day’s work.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

At home, my family has five guinea pigs, two chickens and two cats, a lot of my spare time involves cleaning them and interacting with them. Watching my chickens chase after my cats and then my son chase after my chickens is a good way to kill time. Apart from that I enjoy keeping fit, by doing a lot of body weight exercises, playing my bass guitar and just spending as much time as possible outdoors with my family.

Where is the best place you have visited?

Salisbury plain, every so often when they open up the middle of Salisbury plain, driving through there is such an awesome experience, seeing all of the wildlife. It almost feels like you are on a Safari in another country.

Who are your dream dinner guests?

Terry Crews, Andy Samberg, James Earl Jones and Mark Hamill.

What is your favourite film or book and why?

Star Wars series has always been my favourite, I have many fond memories of watching the films with my family and just becoming completely immersed in the Star Wars universe.

What are your ambitions/aspirations?

After working with animals for so long from Farm parks to Falconry, I no longer have anything really specific I would like to do. At the moment I just want to push myself and strive to do the best I can, to enable me to progress within the Council. But at the end of the day I just want to make sure that I can support my family, if my son can grow up happy and healthy then that is all I need.
