Since the announcement of the 2021 closure of the Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd plant in Swindon, national and local organisations have been working in partnership to secure the best possible outcome for the company; its supply chain; the workforce, the community; the sites; the surrounding area; and the economy.

The Council's Business & Economy Manager (B&E Mgr) coordinates activity and acts as the main contact with Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd, the local supply chain and local and national partners. 

Up to 100 partners across many organisations have a role to play in coordinating, planning, and delivering activity to prepare for the closure. Many meetings, communications and activity take place, which will only increase as the closing date nears. 

The post holder will have a varied role in supporting coordination of the Honda Recovery Programme, working with the B&E Mgr and team to effectively plan, coordinate, deliver and measure the impact of interventions both for Honda-related recovery and for Swindon's wider business and economy recovery programme. 

Responsibilities include stakeholder and programme management, communication and event and meeting management. You must be a confident communicator, demonstrate significant relevant programme and stakeholder management experience and be used to working in commercially confidential environments.

Currently, most Swindon Borough Council staff are working from home and even when working back in the office, the post holder can choose to work remotely, other than on meeting days.

Please note this vacancy is a fixed term contract or secondment opportunity from November 2020 to December 2021. Interested internal parties are required to discuss a secondment opportunity with their own line manager before applying.

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
