We are looking for a standout senior director to take the helm in leading our front-line operational teams that serve over 220,000 Swindon residents. In this brand new role, you will be responsible for optimising the use of our workforce, technology and working methods to provide services that meet the needs of residents as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. The opportunity is easy to articulate, but will need the skills and talents of a proven leader to fully realise.

It’s a big but exciting challenge for someone with the drive, credibility and focus to grip the challenge and lead change from the front-line upwards. You will be responsible for over 650 staff across Waste Operations, Highways Operations and Assets, Public Realm Operations and Enforcement, Parking Operations and Enforcement, Housing Operations, Compliance, Fleet and Stores Management.

An effective communicator, you will be able to engage managers and teams to take joint ownership for delivering a compelling vision for operations, providing clear direction and embedding a culture of continuous improvement. The role will involve championing and supporting innovative ways of working that both enhance the service and reputation of the Council, putting Swindon residents at the heart of everything we do. 

You will naturally want to regularly listen to staff at all levels, particularly from the front-line and set the framework for them to excel. With a keen eye for cost control, you will also seek out resident feedback and service performance data, using this to drive continual improvements. 

This role, which is part of the Chief Operating Officer’s Senior Leadership team, requires someone with a track record of developing and executing service improvement plans. You will be able to underpin these with robust service-wide performance and management processes, putting rigour and compliance at the heart of daily service delivery.
