At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that is who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you will support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

We have an exciting opportunity for Experienced Social Workers to join various teams within Adult Social Care.  The successful candidates will join friendly, supportive and dynamic teams and should have a particular interest in and focus on Adult Safeguarding.  We are committed to providing good quality supervision and continuing professional development opportunities.

Your next role

You will work closely with the residents of Swindon and their families as well as a number of professionals including health, provider services, safeguarding and mental health colleagues. The Adult Social Care Teams support adults living in Swindon and you will be responsible for completing Care Act Assessments and proportionate support planning. In addition, you will be undertaking S42 Enquiries and ensuring appropriate protection plans. You will follow the care management process of reviews, completing Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interest decisions.

As an experienced Social Worker, we would require you to mentor / supervise either a Assistant Care Manager or a Qualified Social Worker. This will require you to have some leadership skills and an ability to lead and support others. We strive to ensure manageable caseloads at all times and offer various training opportunities including strength-based approaches, courses offered throughout the year.

A hybrid-working pattern would be expected, accommodating a combination of remote/home working as well as on-site/in-office presence.

We are interested in applicants who have at least 3 years post qualifying experience and a passion to work with adults who may have physical disability or mental health needs and are committed to providing a person centred and strengths based approach to their work.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our
regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you will be joining
us at an exciting time on our journey. We will look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we will achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon by 2030 together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.

Your next package

Please see our Rewards and Benefits offer for more details.

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.
