Swindon is ranked among one of the top 10 highly innovative areas in the UK and Swindon Borough Council’s Highways and Transport teams are working to reflect this innovation in a wide range of infrastructure and maintenance schemes throughout the Borough. Swindon is undergoing an extensive regeneration and the population is set to expand significantly over the next 12 years.

The Highway Operations team is responsible for all the highway and street lighting routine maintenance as well as discreet projects around the Borough including minor improvement schemes, parking areas, housing projects, and bespoke highway schemes.  The Council have secured substantial funding grants to deliver major improvements over the next five years and the Highway Street Lighting team will be part of that delivery.

What this means for you is an unrivalled chance to make your mark. We are looking for a Highway Supervisor with experience of working within a local authority. Preferably with a background in Civil Engineering with the confidence to supervise the delivery of the routine and planned maintenance.   A proven record of supervising Operational staff. More than that, you’ll be a strong communicator and motivational leader and someone who brings out the best in the people around them.

You must be equipped to plan and supervise works on the highway, have a commercial understanding and budget management knowledge within a multi-disciplinary maintenance team. 

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
